English star tops golf’s rankings, leapfrogging Dustin Johnson
Justin Rose has become world number one for the first time having finished second place in the BMW Championship in Philadelphia.
The current Olympic champion narrowly missed out on winning last weekend’s tournament, losing to Keegan Bradley in a play-off, having slid a par-putt wide on the last regulation hole.
But his ranking will at least be some consolation as he leapfrogs Dustin Johnson for the top spot.
His second place finish in Philadelphia comes off the back of another one a week earlier in the Dell Technologies Championship, where Bryson DeChambeau beat him by two shots.
“It’s boyhood dream stuff, something I am incredibly proud of,” Rose told Sky Sports.
“It’s been a good stretch of golf. I’ve played solidly over the past year. I’m delighted to get to the top.”
